About the WCD Tree Sale
Each Spring the Washington Conservation District holds a tree sale for county landowners to purchase high quality bare root seedlings at a low cost for urban and rural conservation purposes, such as windbreaks, reforestation, erosion control, and food and cover for wildlife. The trees are sourced from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Nursery and Schumacher's Nursery & Berry Farm. The Washington Conservation District cannot control the condition of live plant stock and reserves the right to substitute damaged or unsuitable stock as necessary, and is not responsible for the condition of live plant stock after the scheduled pick-up days, and provides no guarantee for its condition or survival. The trees cannot be resold. All trees are bare root and sold in bundles of 25. The trees will range in height from 5-24 inches tall at the time of pick-up.
We have many varieties of trees that are native to Minnesota, including conifers, hardwoods, small trees, and shrubs; there are also a few varieties that are not native but work well in Washington County.

Proactive Tree Stewardship: Safeguarding Our Urban & Rural Forests
Welcome to the Washington Conservation District's comprehensive resource for tree health and invasive species management. As stewards of our landscapes, landowners and community members play a critical role in preserving the vitality of our diverse tree populations. This page provides essential information on prevalent tree diseases, critical invasive threats like Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), and practical steps for proactive tree care.

The health of our trees can be significantly impacted by a variety of diseases. Early detection and informed management are crucial to mitigating their spread and impact. The University of Minnesota Extension offers in-depth diagnostic tools and management recommendations for a range of plant diseases affecting trees in our region.
-
The Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus planipennis) remains a significant invasive threat, actively decimating ash tree populations throughout the Midwest. Effective EAB management requires a coordinated approach, combining early detection, treatment options, and strategic removal. Many municipalities within Washington County are implementing proactive EAB management plans to protect public and private ash resources.
