Washington County Public Health and Environment, along with other governmental agencies, monitors the quality of groundwater in the county and works to protect it from contamination.

The county also coordinates the Water Consortium, which meets the first Wednesday of each month from 2-4pm.

Washington County Parks has installed raingardens, bioretention areas, shoreline plantings and other practices at Big Marine Park and Square Lake Park. The county has also installed bioretention areas at the South Service Center and has used innovative practices to reduce runoff pollution at several road improvement projects in the county.
