Cottage Grove

Protecting our natural resources in Cottage Grove has developed as a priority for the citizens.  The City Cottage Grove currently has two watershed districts within the City. The City has a Water Resource Management Plan which outlines strategies to protect Cottage Grove ponds and wetlands.

Most recently, Cottage Grove has taken a leadership role in providing public education on environmental issues. The City publishes various environmentally-focused supplements to the Cottage Grove Reports newsletter monthly, which are included in monthly utility bills.

Planting for Clean Water

In 2011, Cottage Grove residents purchased and planted 300 trees with help from the WCD tree program. In addition, South Washington Watershed Disitrict and the Washington Conservation District helped to install ten residential raingardens in Cottage Grove and completed a major parking lot stormwater retrofit project at the Target, which will capture 8.5 pounds of phosphorus each year.

Cost-share grants for raingardens and native shoreline plantings are available though the South Washington Watershed District. Contact John Loomis to schedule a free site visit at your home.

To host a neighborhood party, request a presentation or organize a volunteer project contact Angie Hong.
